Yina Hurtado

Yina Hurtado is an artist, musician, and computer scientist from Jauja, Peru, and the director of Rocoto Design Studio. She is also a founding member of the Kuyayky Foundation, an organization promoting Andean culture and identity, and often collaborate between institutions

Yina has been immersed in technology and art throughout her career. She has also researched Andean culture through music, dance and historic records. She uses technology to reach audiences across the world. Some of her initiatives include the development of Imanchay, a quechua-learning mobile application used by thousands that has been covered by news outlets in Peru and the USA, and Yachay World, a global project to teach computer science and English to youths in Peru.

As a musician, she has composed multiple songs that explore topics ranging from the experiences of women in indigenous communities, the impacts of climate change in the Andes, or the accounts of pre-columbian human migrations to the Andean mountains. Her works have been published online, as well as performed in venues such as the Smithsonian museum.
